Class Reflection and Summary

Class Reflection & Summary - Annie Ho During quarantine, my main struggle was to concentrate on my student life as I was surrounded by my family and news that seemed to get more devastating. Though I did not have very much experience with film analysis or creating film, I thought my transition to online classes moved relatively smoothly, especially since this discipline already targeted and made use of the emerging media. My biggest obstacle during my time in this class was to create an enjoyable final project using a program I was still struggling with, even though students were given a lot of freedom. However, I enjoyed being able to accomplish something new and I was exposed to a new perspective about the hardships of creating a film. After finishing this course, I find myself analyzing the same shows and videos I watch, and more humbly appreciating the labor that goes into creating the perfect film. Additionally, I also think about how crucial digital media has become during...

Audio Portrait - Annie Ho

Audio Portrait Project Annie Ho For more context, I thought of my audio portrait to be a radio interview, where the participant is asked for her personal experience during the transition from early COVID days into quarantine lifestyle. She brings up a story of her own during this time that has given her new perspective. The idea I was going for represents a sort of dial-in on the radio, now spammed with overwhelming content about the coronavirus.

Audio Portrait Description

For my audio portrait, I’m planning to discuss the impacts of Covid19 with my sister and her life, which had only occurred recently and is still ongoing. The main idea is to provide insight into the life of the New York community who has suddenly gone into quarantine, as well as capture how the virus has changed our lives so suddenly. The flow of the interview will begin with an introduction into my sister’s previous daily routine and focus on the growing anxieties and changes that have erupted, and how they have changed her schedule. Her personal input and emotions will accompany her description of various changes that have occurred. The mood for this interview does not have to be traumatic and could be an expression of her confusion and frustration, depending on how she describes her emotions. Questions: 1. What was your daily routine like before the news of the coronavirus? 2. How did you originally feel when you started hearing news about this virus outside of the states...

Define a Place

Colors In The Dark from Bianca Mistretta on Vimeo . Our "Define a Place" project, titled "Colors in the Dark" is a portrayal of life amongst the still landscape in Central Park. Because of the vast space and the cold weather, the park appears quiet and dead, with many plants barren and animals hibernating. However, through this project, my partner and I were able to capture little moments of life hidden within the park, especially within the concrete buildings surrounding landscape. We hope this film evokes the idea of finding comfort in the little things, when the overall image or goal is emotionless and less inspiring.

Define A Place: Shot List

In our short film, we hope to convey the emotion of calamity and peacefulness within fast-paced life, using the context of New York City’s hectic environment. To express this feeling, we want to take advantage of Central Park’s setting near more urban life, such as the subways, buses, and buildings. We want to begin with still shots of busy life, something New York natives are familiar with and desensitized to. Then, transitioning to the park setting with similar still shots by the camera will stand out to the viewer as a contrasting tranquility and stillness, especially with elements such as plants and bodies of water. Our use of the natural landscape will allow the viewer to experience a sense of serenity after establishing our setting in one of the busiest and most motion-filled cities. Example shots of people and different forms of life will remind the viewer of this sense of “getting away” from the stress of the city. We also hope to keep in mind the flow of music in this film, wh...
