In our short film, we hope to convey the emotion of calamity and peacefulness within fast-paced life, using the context of New York City’s hectic environment. To express this feeling, we want to take advantage of Central Park’s setting near more urban life, such as the subways, buses, and buildings. We want to begin with still shots of busy life, something New York natives are familiar with and desensitized to. Then, transitioning to the park setting with similar still shots by the camera will stand out to the viewer as a contrasting tranquility and stillness, especially with elements such as plants and bodies of water. Our use of the natural landscape will allow the viewer to experience a sense of serenity after establishing our setting in one of the busiest and most motion-filled cities. New York is known for its hustle and constant motion, filled with a diverse combination of people who are just trying to combat the speed of the city. As people who are so familiar with the motion-filled landscape, we are often desensitized to the details around us. In our project, my partner and I will be zooming into a different aspect of New York in detail, hoping to capture moments of peace within the bustling and busy city. To evoke this form of tranquility, Bianca and I chose to focus on aspects of nature in the concrete jungle. The characteristics of the city’s nature differ from what the larger idea of “nature” is, and we wish to link together examples of New York’s natural scene to exhibit a form of peaceful escape. My name is Annie. Nearing the end of my second semester at Hunter, I have only recently decided to declare my major in the media studies path. The majority of the time, I’m still unsure about what my future career holds for me, or if I’m on the right track. I generally worry a lot as a person, and I’m not always able to successfully communicate my thoughts. I’m beginning to learn, however, that my involvement in art has helped me through my difficulties, and that I should embrace what I enjoy as a creator. Growing up, I’ve always loved recreating and personalizing artwork for my friends and family. Jokingly the “artist” of the family, I found it ironic since I hadn’t done much but sketch and doodle, and occasionally designing birthday cards with inside jokes.
